On Tuesday, Ukrainian security services claimed responsibility for the assassination of the Commander of the Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Army, Igor Kirillov, in an explosion that targeted a Moscow metro station.
A source in the Ukrainian security service said: “The agency killed the head of the Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces, Igor Kirillov, in a special operation in Moscow.”
The source added, “Ukraine considers Kirillov a ‘war criminal'” and a “totally legitimate target,” and accused him of issuing orders to use banned chemical weapons against its forces in the war.
For his part, the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement: “Lieutenant-General Kirillov collapsed in an explosion while leaving a residential building in Moscow, according to what Politico reported a criminal investigation.”
