The European Union (EU) plans to provide about €18 billion in international loans to Kyiv using proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner announced this during a visit to New York.

“This week we are on the verge of a breakthrough in support for Ukraine,” the DPA agency quotes the politician as saying. At the same time, he highly appreciated the statement of US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen that the American part of the loan for Ukraine from income from frozen Russian assets will amount to $20 billion. “This also opens the way for support from the European Union in the amount of €18 billion,” – Lindner emphasized.

On October 22, the European Parliament, at a plenary session in Strasbourg, approved the mechanism proposed by the European Commission for allocating a loan of €35 billion to Kyiv with repayment from income from frozen Russian assets. This EU loan is intended to form part of the G7 credit line, which should total $50 billion, or €45 billion.
