For a week now, armed groups have stormed the city’s main port, cutting off one of the last remaining means of life in the capital to obtain food and supplies, as the country approaches collapse. Currently, more than 260 containers with humanitarian supplies are controlled by armed groups in the port.

«Depriving children of vital supplies in the face of a collapsed health system is a violation of their rights. “This incident occurs at a critical time, when children need these supplies most,” said Bruno Maes, UNICEF representative in Haiti.

Since January, the deteriorating security situation in Haiti has worsened the humanitarian crisis. UNICEF has expressed serious concern about the impact of violence on children and adolescents’ access to an already collapsed health system that is supported by essential supplies from the entity.
