Crude oil prices have fallen in the international market. Crude oil prices have fallen to a seven-month low. Today crude oil is $92 per barrel. But even today there is no change in the price of petrol and diesel in the country. On May 21, the central government reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel. Subsequently, the price of petrol has decreased by Rs.9.50 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs.7 per liter across the country.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, commenting on the reduction in petrol price, said that despite the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market, Indian oil companies are making losses and they need more time to recover. The minister gave this answer to the question whether the price of petrol and diesel will decrease as the price of crude oil has been decreasing for the past one week. From his reply, it is clear that oil marketing companies like HPCL, BPCL and IOCL are unlikely to cut petrol and diesel prices immediately.

However, experts say that petrol and diesel prices will drop by Rs 2 to Rs 3 in the coming days. Earlier in February, crude oil was around $90 per barrel, which touched $125 per barrel in June. Brent crude currently stands at $92.84 per barrel.
