The reasons for personal data (PD) leaks from government information systems (GIS) have changed over the year. Experts from the Serchinform company found this out by interviewing 1,300 employees of government agencies. Personal data includes not only full name and information from various documents proving identity and status, but also information from electronic accounts, facts about health status and personal beliefs/preferences, using which you can identify a person.

The majority of leaks are still associated with the carelessness of the citizens themselves who own personal data: in 2022 they accounted for 43.6%, and in 2023 – 38.6%, the study says. Respondents admit that users have become more attentive to the safety of their personal data. The respondents consider external attacks on GIS to be one of the main reasons for leaks, but the share of those who chose this option is slowly decreasing – from 32.7% in 2022 to 31% in 2023.
