The United States has struck a surface-to-air missile belonging to the Houthi rebels of the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen. The Central Command of the US Armed Forces announced this on Friday, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“At approximately 12:40 p.m. on March 1, Central Command struck in self-defense one of the surface-to-air missiles that was being prepared for launch,” the command said in a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) page.

The command also notes that the Houthis launched one anti-ship ballistic missile from Yemen towards the Red Sea at 22:46. No ship was damaged.

Following the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Ansar Allah movement said it would carry out attacks on Israeli territory and would not allow associated ships to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ceases. Since mid-November last year, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
