New York: Spain’s Carlos Algaras and Norway’s Casper Ruud face off in the US Open men’s singles final.
In the men’s singles semi-final of the series in New York, Spain, Spain’s 3rd seed Carlos Algarz took on 22nd seed Frances Tiafoe of the United States. 19-year-old Carlos Algaraz advanced to the final with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 victory in this match that lasted 4 hours and 19 minutes.
With this, Carlos Algaras became the first young player since Rafael Nadal to qualify for the final round of a Grand Slam tournament. It is noteworthy that Rafael Nadal had played in the final round of the French Open in 2005.
In the final round, Carlos Algarz will take on No. 5 seed Kasper Rude of Norway. Kaspar Rud defeated 27th seed Karen Kachanov of Russia 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Algaras vs Casper Rudd will host the final on Monday at 1.30 am IST. The winners of the finals will take the top spot in the World Tennis Rankings along with the Champions Trophy.
