In the tragic case that shook Punta del Este and the entire country, this Tuesday, February 6, the third and final hearing of the trial for the death of Valentina Cancela Sarmoria, a young woman whose life was cruelly ended on Brava Beach, concluded. The wait for justice is coming to an end, and the 4th Shift Specialized Court for Gender-Based, Domestic and Sexual Violence of San Carlos, chaired by Dr. Vital Rodríguez, will issue its ruling on Wednesday, February 28.

During the last hearing, witnesses provided by the defense of the accused 17-year-old adolescent appeared, seeking to demonstrate the minority of the accused. Previously, police officers and witnesses presented by the lawyers of the victim’s family had recounted the events.

In an atmosphere full of tension, the defense fought to reduce the sentence, while the Prosecutor’s Office and representatives of Valentina’s family insisted on the maximum sentence.

The lawyers of the Cancela Sarmoria family, Martín Etcheverry and Pablo Ballesta, as well as the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Gender, Domestic and Sexual Violence of the 1st shift of San Carlos, They have requested the maximum sentence of 10 years for the accused. The aggressor left the scene and returned with a shovel to bury her in the sand, also getting rid of her belongings.
