Venezuela protested the decision of a federal judge in Argentina that issued an arrest warrant for the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega and other senior leaders in that country.

This came in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, published on its Telegram channel by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, Ivan Gil Pinto.

“Venice categorically rejects the illegal actions taken by Argentine federal judge Ariel Legault against (Nicaragua) President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and senior officials of the Nicaraguan government,” the ministry said.

The statement criticized the decision of the Argentine judge, describing it as “a ridiculous measure based on false statements by agents linked to the hegemony of the West and the opposition movement with the aim of undermining the sovereignty of independent states and to give illegal sanctions.”

The Ministry emphasized that Venezuela “categorically refuses to use the principle of universal jurisdiction to achieve political goals, which violates the basic principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of independent states, specified in international law. “

Argentina’s court has confirmed that human rights violations fall under universal jurisdiction, so it has the power to summon foreign leaders for questioning and issue orders for their detention.
