Beckham Wedding Drama: DJ Fat Tony Reveals Details of Brooklyn’s First Dance Dispute

A tense atmosphere surrounded Brooklyn Beckham’s 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, with accusations of a disrupted first dance escalating into a public family feud. Now, DJ Fat Tony, who performed at the three-day event, is offering his perspective on the incident, shedding light on the events that unfolded and the resulting discomfort felt by guests.

The controversy stems from Brooklyn Beckham’s claim that his mother, Victoria Beckham, “hijacked” his first dance with Peltz. The accusations, initially shared on Instagram Stories, allege that Victoria Beckham unexpectedly joined him on the dance floor while he anticipated dancing with his wife.

Fat Tony, speaking on ITV’s This Morning on January 23, confirmed the wedding was not a single-day affair, but a three-day celebration encompassing a welcome party, the wedding itself, and a Sunday brunch. He noted that the brunch proved particularly awkward, as “everything that had gone on on the actual wedding night was discussed amongst all the guests the next morning.”

The DJ addressed the use of the word “inappropriate,” stating, “Why I’m here is to talk about the word ‘inappropriate’ — what we deem inappropriate.” He jokingly asserted his own familiarity with the term, referencing his often provocative Instagram content, but clarified that the evening’s events did not involve any overtly scandalous behavior. “There was … no slut-dropping. There was no black cat PVC catsuits. There was no Spice Girl action.”

However, Fat Tony confirmed there was an issue with the timing of events. According to his account, Marc Anthony invited Brooklyn Beckham onstage during his performance. Expecting his wife to join him for their first dance, Brooklyn was surprised when Anthony instead beckoned Victoria Beckham to the stage.

“Victoria is by the stage, she goes onto the stage,” Fat Tony recounted. “And of course at that point, Brooklyn is, like, suddenly literally devastated because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife. Then Nicola leaves the room, crying her eyes out. Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony’s like, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips.’”

The DJ emphasized the palpable tension in the room. “The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room,” he said, adding that the Beckhams are typically a “very dance-y, close-knit family.” He ultimately concluded that the perception of what was “inappropriate” hinged on Brooklyn Beckham’s feelings. “If he felt it was inappropriate and awkward, then it was inappropriate and awkward.”

Fat Tony also expressed empathy for all parties involved, suggesting a deeper emotional undercurrent to the situation. “I think what we’re all missing here is the fact that the parents have lost their child — their son — and a son’s lost his parents and the rest of his family.”

Brooklyn Beckham’s initial claims, shared on his Instagram Stories, echoed the sentiment of a disrupted moment. He wrote that the event was planned to be a “romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead,” and that his mother “danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.” He further alleged that both his parents were attempting to create distance between him and Peltz.

Billboard reached out to Victoria and David Beckham for comment, but a response was not immediately available.

The incident underscores the complexities of family dynamics and the lasting impact of perceived slights, even within the context of a high-profile wedding. The differing perspectives highlight the subjective nature of “inappropriate” behavior, ultimately suggesting that the most significant factor is the emotional experience of those involved.
