Rome: Women-led mass protests in Italy against male violence against women. In Rome, thousands of women took part in a protest led by the feminist organization Non Una de Meno. Protesters took to the streets holding posters calling for an end to the violence. The march in the big cities coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day is celebrated on November 25 every year since it was officially declared by the United Nations. Women’s organizations around the world are organizing a week – long event to mark the day. According to UN figures, 736 million women worldwide are victims of violence. Most people are victims of abuse at some point in their lives, such as partner abuse and stranger sexual abuse. Last week, women in several European countries, including France and the UK, took to the streets to protest against male violence. Thousands took to the streets holding up banners reading ‘Stop sexual violence in Paris’.
