“From what I saw, from what I learned in the weeks we were there, war became routine, war became work. The soldiers rotate, they are 24 hours, 48 hours at the front, they go back to the rear, if that is possible. The work of logisticians is also interesting,” said Darja Stomatová, a correspondent for ČT in Ukraine, in Interview ČT24.

“The Russian side keeps refusing us, Western journalists, to go there and report. All the information we give is from the Ukrainian side, which needs to be emphasized constantly,” pointed out the reporter for ČT.

Stomatová also commented on the current events in Russia’s Belgorod region, where, according to Moscow, Ukrainians are currently attacking directly, and according to Kyiv, Russian partisans.

“We often asked Ukrainian soldiers how Wagner (Wagner’s mercenary group – editor’s note) works. how the Russian soldiers work and according to them, compared to how the war started, how the invasion started, a lot of things have changed. Even the Russians began to learn from their own mistakes and of course the war has been going on for a long time, and fatigue on both sides plays a big role,” Stomatová said in CT.

“I communicated with Russian soldiers who had been in Ukraine for some time, lived in Ukraine,” she said of the Legion of Freedom or volunteer corps. “For example, that particular corps is very much on the right, I would be more careful there, but what is interesting even in today’s context regarding the Belgorod region is that this particular group often made forays into Russian territory, into the Bryansk region, the Belgorod region, she published it on social networks, they sent me footage and pointed out that the border is not well guarded, that there is a possibility to get to the other side,” said Stomatová.

“For them, as citizens of Russia, which they still are, this eliminates the interesting, tense moment that Ukrainians would attack directly on Russian territory. It’s easier for them. I would probably call them partisans. And I think that a lot of guerrillas operate directly in Russia and they are Russians. The motivation for all of them is probably the same: to overthrow President Vladimir Putin and establish a different order in Russia that will help Ukraine,” remarked Stomatová.

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, who was sanctioned by Western countries because of the war in Ukraine, held talks in Saudi Arabia today with his counterpart, Prince Abdal Aziz bin Saud. The AP agency wrote about it with reference to the Saudi state media. Kolokoltsev visited the country just a few days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi arrived at the League of Arab States (LAS) summit in Jeddah on Friday.

“During the meeting, they talked about how to strengthen security cooperation between the ministries of interior of the two countries, as well as other topics of common interest,” the state press agency SPA stated in its report.

Now the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský (Pirates) is traveling to Saudi Arabia, and he is taking 15 Czech businessmen with him.

The majority of Polish companies already employ people from Ukraine, according to a survey by the staffing agency Gremi. According to him, 80 percent of companies in Poland have Ukrainians on their staff list, while in one third of Polish companies, Ukrainians make up ten to 20 percent of the workforce. The Polish press agency PAP informs about it today.

In 43 percent of the companies covered by the survey, Ukrainians work both in highly qualified positions and in those with low qualifications. About 18 percent of the companies in the survey said that they only employ highly qualified people from Ukraine. The same share of companies stated that they hire Ukrainians only for low-skilled work.

In the town of Ęťkovo in the Bryansk region, which also borders Ukraine, a warehouse used by an armory supplying optical systems is on fire, Ukrainska pravda wrote with reference to local media. “Clouds of black smoke can be seen kilometers away from the site of the fire,” wrote the Novosti Brjanska server, he did not mention the cause of the fire.

Stomatová: I hurt my parents the most, I know that

At the same time, Stomatová went to Kavčí hory after working for CNN Prima News. Together with cameraman Ján Schürger, they go to Ukraine repeatedly, now with the camera and microphone of CT. And they even started to form a couple.

“We’ve been working together for 3 years now, and I’m fascinated by his ability to predict things and to think a little differently,” she gave a glimpse into the war through the eyes of a reporter in the ČT24 Interview. “I’m still a bit conservative in those journalistic ideas that I plan this and that’s how I want it. He taught me one essential thing, that you need to say to yourself, well, we could do this, but then let yourself be carried away by that moment and that story,” she commented on reports from Ukraine. “I’m so glad to have such a person next to me,” she said in CT.

“I think I hurt my parents the most in my life by driving. But it’s my decision and they understand, even if it’s hard for them. But of course I’m single, I don’t have children and it’s easier for me. So I only have to think about my parents. It is very, very, very difficult for my parents, I know that, but I think that women in war should be and that they should show a slightly different view of the situation (…). We women know how to do it differently, and why should we keep it to ourselves. I am responsible for my life, for the most part I think that even Honza as a man feels a lot of responsibility for my life, which is more complicated for him than for me, but it is my decision,” added Stomatová honestly.
