The demands of the protesters in the municipal health care will be partially satisfied. This was stated by the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, at a briefing in the Capital Municipality after a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Trade Unions in Health Care at KNSB and Medical Federation “Podkrepa”.

Earlier today, they announced that they are planning a protest in front of the Metropolitan Municipality tomorrow for an increase in the salaries of those working in the “Child and School Health” sector (nurseries and health offices in educational institutions) in Sofia. The unions demand that the basic salaries of those employed in child and school health care be increased from BGN 1,350 to BGN 1,890.

We had a fruitful meeting with the unions, Terziev said. This is one of the many meetings that we need to have in order to start solving the systemic problems of healthcare in Sofia, he added.

The capital’s mayor said he had informed the unions about the first steps the municipality had taken, such as the funding of BGN 8.5 million for additional remuneration for municipal health care, as well as BGN 6 million for equipment and repairs to working conditions are improving, writes BTA.

We are aware that what we have additionally invested in the budget is only a necessary first step, but we will continue to work together so that all those employed in the sector receive fair and decent remuneration, said Mayor Terziev. He said some of the adjustments that will be made to the Metropolitan Municipality budget, which is due to be voted on this week by the Metropolitan Municipal Council, came after talks with the other political groups in the SOS. Terziev thanked his colleagues for the suggestions. This shows that important decisions for Sofia are important to us and find a place in the budget, regardless of which party they are proposed by, explained Terziev.
