WhatsApp is ending! At least with older Android versions.

Because: From October 24th, the messenger will increase its system requirements – and thus end support for older Android devices.

Specifically, this means: Anyone who still uses a smartphone with Android version 4.4 will be in trouble from this deadline. From then on, only devices with Android 5 or newer will be supported. WhatsApp points this out in its FAQs hin.

Older devices are affected

This affects users who still use quite old devices. Because the current Android version is already number 13. Cell phones that still run on the old Android 4 include the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, it is estimated that there are still 15 million devices with this version of Android in circulation worldwide.

You can check which Android version is installed on your smartphone in your cell phone’s settings. You can usually find the information under “System” or “My Device” – depending on the manufacturer, the menu items may have different names.

If your device is no longer supported from October 24th, you can also check here to see whether an update is available to upgrade your phone to a newer Android version. Then you can continue using WhatsApp.

By the way: Nothing changes with the iPhone. Here WhatsApp continues to run from iOS version 12. The system requirements are not increased.
