President Gabriel Boric appointed the general prefect Eduardo Cerna Lozano as new director of the Investigative Police (PDI).
The public official who served as deputy director of Logistics Administration and Administration of the PDIwill assume the position left vacant by Sergio Muñoz, who resigned prior to its formalization due to violation of secrecy.
The new director of the PDI
Eduardo Cerna Lozanowho as of this Thursday takes over as the new director of the Investigative Police, has a track record of 35 years in the institution.
The police authority obtained the rank of prefect inspector in 2020, at which time he held the position of National Head of Logistics and Large Purchases, and at the end of 2023 he was promoted to prefect general.
According to public statement from the Ministry of the Interior, Eduardo Cerna He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Concepción. After that, he began his training at the PDI in 1989.
Throughout his career in the police entity, he has been part of the judicial police stations of Concepción and San Miguel, later forming the Metropolitan Economic Crimes Investigative Brigade.
In addition, Cerna joined the Southern Task Force in La Legua and La Victoria, towns belonging to the commune of San Joaquín and Pedro Aguirre Cerda, respectively.
It was also part of the General Inspectorate of the PDI, head of the Metropolitan Tactical Reaction Brigade, deputy director of the Police Investigation School and director of the Professional Training Center.
In addition to this, Eduardo Cerna served as head of the Santiago Criminal Investigation Brigade, head of the Prefecture of Special Operations and National Head of Logistics and Large Purchases of the PDI.
On the other hand, the new director of the civil police has the rank of master’s degree in strategic intelligence and diplomas in intelligence analysis and cybersecurity techniques.
Likewise, it has a Diploma in police investigation of organized crimemention negotiation and crisis management.

Cerna met this Thursday morning with government authorities in La Moneda, where he took the opportunity to thank President Boric for appointing him to that position.
“Designation that I assume and receive with great humility, but with total commitment to continue working alongside the more than 12 thousand women and men that make up the PDI,” he explained.
“Also, to unite and join forces with all the institutions that make up criminal prosecution. Nobody, nor any institution can be subtracted and the PDI will not be one of them,” she added.
On the other hand, Cerna referred to the Muñoz case and apologized to the citizens and members of the Investigative Police.
“They are individual behaviors, but they have no place in the institution. We have not accepted them and we will not accept them. And here we are to work and continue showing that We can and must continue fighting for a safer Chilewhere everyone has a place,” he said.
