Why the Squid Game actor was convicted

O Yeong-su, a renowned South Korean actor part of the cast of The Squid Game, was sentenced to eight months of suspended pressure. The 79-year-old performer was the first of his nationality to win a Golden Globe for his role as Oh Il-nam in the Netflix production.

It was at the end of November 2022 that it came to light that O Yeong-su was accused by the South Korean prosecutor’s office of inappropriately touching a woman in 2017. This Friday the Suwon District Court (south of Seoul) considered that the The victim’s story is consistent and for this reason he sentenced the actor to undergo 40 hours in a program for stalkers.

The sentence of eight months in prison is suspended for 2 years, that is, if during that period he does not commit any crime, he will not have to go to prison.

The victim reported the case to the police in December 2021, but it was closed in April 2022. However, the prosecutor’s office decided to reopen it and investigate the interpreter. He is now convicted of hugging and kissing a woman on the cheek between August and September 2017 during a theater tour. The interpreter has denied the charges from the beginning.

In 2022, O Yeong-su was awarded the Golden Globe for best supporting actor, for his role as player 001 in The Squid Game, one of the most watched series on Netflix in the world.
