Sidney Holmes, 57, who was sentenced to 400 years in prison for an armed robbery, was acquitted by a Florida judge after being found not guilty of the crime.

Sidney Holmes, now 57, was released from prison after 34 years in prison. A video of him reuniting with his family has melted the hearts of viewers online. The man, who was sentenced to 400 years in prison, was found not guilty of the crime and acquitted by a Florida judge in the US.

He was wrongly identified in the 1988 Ayudamendi armed robbery case. Years later, the court found there was no direct evidence against him, according to BBC News.

In a video shared by the BBC on Instagram, he can be seen hugging his mother tightly and cuddling with his family members. His mother Mary Holmes tearfully listens to her son. “I am very grateful. I am very grateful to God and I am very grateful to everyone who made this possible.” says that Holmes says he wants to reform the prison. He adds, “You cannot lose hope. Faith is something you can never give up.” says that

ABC reported that Holmes had been convicted as a convicted felon. Apparently, he was previously convicted of two armed robbery cases in August 1984. Also, he pleaded guilty. He immediately confessed to the crime. In 2020, Holmes approached the Crown Prosecution Service’s Conviction Review Unit (CRU). He said he was actually innocent of the armed robbery of two men outside a convenience store. ABC was quoted as saying that after a thorough investigation into the case, Broward County State’s Attorney Harold F. Pryor raised reasonable doubts about his guilt.

In a news release released by CBC, CBS reported that during the CRU review, eyewitnesses to Holmes in the initial investigation were discredited and there was no evidence to prove Holmes’ involvement in the case. An investigation by one of the victim’s brothers, whose car may have been misidentified, proved that key differences between his car and the robbers’ car had been overlooked. 5 out of 6 independent panel members voted him innocent and not guilty.
