Yandex launched a caller ID in the WhatsApp messengers (owned by Meta, whose activities in the Russian Federation are recognized as extremist and banned) and Viber. The new feature is designed to detect calls from scammers.
The qualifier is available for iOS and Android users. It will inform the user about the possible purpose of the call and, in particular, warn about spam or advertising, as well as calls from delivery services, banks, medical institutions. To connect it, you must also install the Yandex with Alice application.
The Yandex identifier for cellular communications was launched in 2018. In 2021, caller ID began to automatically block and mute unwanted calls from spammers and scammers.
As Kommersant found out, telecom operators that are not connected to the Antifraud call verification system may be deprived of the opportunity to provide roaming services. This initiative is being discussed by the Ministry of Digital Development together with the Federation Council, explaining that the bulk of fraudulent calls come to Russia from abroad.
