For almost a week at the festival, three professional juries evaluated feature films, documentaries and animations from students from film schools in Russia, Japan, Great Britain, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Germany, which is almost incredible in our times. The award for the best program was given to the School of Film and Television named after. Stiva Tisha from Tel Aviv, who presented strong and unusual paintings.

The Grand Prix went to the feature film “250” by VGIK student Hasmik Movsisyan, filmed in Armenia about a 14-year-old teenager. On the first day of the sudden outbreak of war, he, essentially still a child, transports his family and loved ones to a safe place.

Young directors make films with a good sense of all the peculiarities of their time, even if these are funny, almost anecdotal stories. Many aspiring directors perceive the present much more acutely than their predecessors.

The special jury prize was given to the most witty feature film “MIR”, representing the Moscow Film School. Director Guran Narmania showed something that has existed for a long time, it’s just called differently, namely, a kind of ministry of apologies. His vigilant employees Koba and Revaz are filming the apology of the comedian who made a careless speech – who dared to call khinkali dumplings. The guy repented before all the Georgians and separately before the Pshar people, but it turned out unconvincing. There was no sincerity in his words, and therefore a repeated admission of guilt was required.

Later it turns out that the origin of khinkali is disputed by different peoples, and each claims primacy in their appearance. When everything is resolved and the hero is treated to this dish, he begins to eat khinkali not with his hands, as expected, but with a fork and knife, and again falls under the distribution.

At the end, during the credits, all the authors repented: the director for making such a movie, the cameraman, who took the blame, for the fact that the dumplings on the screen turned out worse than khinkali, the producer for giving money for the movie. All this is dashing, fun and easy to do, with a wonderful sense of humor, so that many of the absurdities that destroy people’s lives seem laughable.

The mystical drama “Aiyy Kuo” by Sokurov’s workshop student Ayaal Adamov from Yakutia, representing the St. Petersburg Institute of Film and Television, was awarded a special prize from the Humanitarian University. The heroine comes from St. Petersburg to a Yakut village for her sister’s funeral, and she unexpectedly comes to life. The younger sister is subjected to violence and in response she only sings and does not speak. Otherworldly forces invade the consciousness of the heroes of many films, and everyday life recedes, acquiring a mystical character.

Klavdia Korshunova directed the film “Forgive Me, Anya” and represented the Moscow Film School. She managed to assemble an excellent acting team – Stepan Devonin, Yura Borisov, who played another variation on the theme of the “sensitive policeman”. His hero, a traffic police officer, finds himself in an unusual environment – at a wedding of creative youth. A new circle of friends reveals unexpected sides to him. Excellent work by Yura Borisov with his unique organic quality.

The film “Grandmothers” by Lyubava Yarovaya tells about deceived old women who unite and represent a real army capable of moving mountains. They use their entire approach to deal with young swindlers who tried to make money at their expense. Grandmas are power.

Just as this happens in “Anna’s Feelings” by Anna Melikyan, where Anna Mikhalkova played a simple Russian woman who entered into contact with extraterrestrial civilizations, the heroes of the short film “Contactors” by Anastasia Voronina communicate with a certain higher intelligence, confusing the authors of the “Paranormal Cherepovets” program. They broadcast alien messages to humanity, and this is a profitable enterprise in every sense.

The hero of Artem Zakharyan’s “Hairstyles” puts his bangs in the shape of a triangle, which terribly angers his father-in-law, who sees his son-in-law’s “transgender soul” in this prank. His wife’s caring father considers him a humanoid, and he desperately resists the habit of his elders to regulate the lives of others.

Screenings of animated works invariably arouse increased interest at Kinoprobe and attract the maximum number of viewers. Perhaps the explanation is that at the Ural State University about 80 people simultaneously study the art of animation. The studio of Alexey Fedorchenko, based in Yekaterinburg, launched two animated series at once. There are no problems with specialists. However, the current program turned out to be significantly weaker than in previous years, which cannot be said about feature films.

In addition to screenings, Kinoproba hosts several master classes every day with the brightest people in their profession. Among them are the legendary producer Yuri Obukhov, who began his career as an administrator in the film “Gentlemen of Fortune”, his colleague Alexander Gerasimov, who heads the animated “Suzdalfest”, director Pavel Mirzoev, who headed the jury of the gaming competition, documentarian Evgeny Tsymbal, who also worked on “Stalker” “Tarkovsky, cameraman Alisher Khamidkhodzhaev, screenwriter and director Gennady Ostrovsky, actress Olga Lapshina, film critics Victoria Belopolskaya and Larisa Malyukova. Master classes on puppet animation were conducted by director Maria Muat and artist Marina Kurchevskaya. Twice Oscar nominee Konstantin Bronzit also came.

Outstanding film critic and film historian Evgeny Margolit gave a lecture “Gelovani before Stalin” about Mikhail Gelovani, who became a hostage to one role, which his friend and actor Boris Tenin called a tombstone. After Stalin’s role, all paths were closed. On the same day, Gelovani’s film “The Real Caucasian,” filmed in 1931, was presented.

Film expert and director of Kinoproba Liliya Nemchenko says that it is difficult to get masters: Yekaterinburg is not Sochi, and in December it is dark and cold here. Austrian director Ulrich Seidl was once lured by old Ural factories. The Dutch classic Jos Stelling also came, and Andrey Zvyagintsev headed the jury. And this is a serious level, and for young people it is a real gift that still needs to be justified.
