From 2021 to this day, Litvinenko was the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. Between 2014 and 2019, he was the deputy head of the National Security and Defense Council.

The council coordinates other power structures, prepares drafts of presidential decrees on national security issues.

The Council also makes decisions on the introduction of a state of emergency or martial law.

Zelensky’s order does not say anything about the reasons for Danilov’s dismissal. There was no prior announcement of the impending cancellation.

The British magazine “The Economist” wrote in January that Valery Zaluzhny, the then commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, may be appointed to Danilov’s place.

However, after his release from the post of Commander-in-Chief, he was appointed as Ukraine’s ambassador to Great Britain.

Danilov was the mayor of Luhansk in the 90s. In the 2004 presidential election, he headed Viktor Yushchenko’s Luhansk headquarters, but later became the governor of the Luhansk region.

He was a member of the Ukrainian Parliament for two years, representing Yulia Tymoshenko’s bloc in the legislative assembly.

During the time when Danilov was the secretary of the council, the council banned the operation of several Russian media in the country, as well as blocked the work of pro-Russian Ukrainian TV channels.

Sanctions were imposed on several Ukrainian citizens and organizations suspected of working for Moscow.
