Abuja: A shocking report has been released that 4020 people were killed for Christianity in the 10 months from January 1 to October 31, 2022 in the West African country of Nigeria. This report was released by the NGO ‘The International Civil Liberties and Rule of Law’ (Inter Society), which studies the religious persecution faced by Nigerian Christians. The report also states that 2315 Christians have been abducted as hostages during this period.

2,650 Christians were killed by Islamist militants linked to the Muslim Fulani tribe. Islamic extremists like West Africa Province and Boko Haram are behind the massacre of the rest. In the six months from January to June alone, 1,401 people were taken prisoner, while in the four months from July to October, 915 people were taken prisoner.

According to the report, an average of 400 Christians are killed each month; 231 Christians are taken prisoner. That means 13 murders and eight kidnappings are reported every day. The report also points out that the possibility of returning at least 10% of the captive Christians is very low. The information in the report states that Nigeria is the country where the most number of Christians have been killed in the world in 2022.

According to the report, more than 60,000 Christians have been killed for their faith in the past two decades, and more than 10 million have fled since 2009, when Islamist militants established their presence in the region. Benue State had the highest number of Christians killed, 463. 450 people were killed in Taraba, 395 in Kaduna, 314 in Niger, 312 in Plateau and 240 in Borno. The fact is that the Nigerian people embraced Christianity despite the increasing persecution of Christianity.
