A strong jolt of earthquake of magnitude 6.9 was recorded at 13:03 local time (3:03 in Italy) off the coast of Solomon Islands, in the Pacific Ocean southern. A tsunami warning has been issued. The Solomon Islands authorities have urged citizens to move, as a precaution, to zone elevate. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 15 km and about 16 km southwest of the area of The gates, as noted by the United States Geological Institute which initially set a magnitude at 7.3. Herming, a spokesman for the Solomon Islands Prime Minister’s Office, Manasseh Sogaware, told Reuters there were currently no reports of major damage to buildings in downtown Honiara, the South Pacific state capital. It was very strong, Joy Nisha, a receptionist at the Heritage Park Hotel in the capital. Some things in the hotel fell down. Witnesses told of televisions and other objects that fell to the ground during the quake.
In the meantime, the toll from the earthquake that hit Indonesia has worsened: there are at least 146 confirmed victims, hundreds injured, many buildings damaged.
