An aperitif validated by the Church. On the island of Majorca (Spain), a bar opened on the beach of Portals Nous. Behind its appearance of a banal guinguette, the establishment is in fact run by the parish of the commune.

This “chiringuito” (beach bar in Spanish) is actually managed by the church of Portals Nous, reports the Majorca Newspaper relayed by The Independent. A detail that in no way changes the establishment’s menu: in addition to the traditional prawns and salads, there are the alcoholand even champagne at over 400 euros.

Construction of a solidarity hostel

The real difference is where the profits from the beach bar go. Indeed, all the income generated by the establishment will be used to finance a charitable action on the island of Majorca. The idea is to build a refuge capable of accommodating a dozen people.

The aim is to accommodate families with housing access problems. The cost of this future solidarity inn is not anecdotal: between 800,000 and 900,000 euros, hence the idea of opening a chiringuito to finance the project. The icing on the cake: the bar was – logically – baptized Tabgha, the city where Christ would have multiplied the loaves and fishes according to the Bible.
