The bill on holding auctions for the sale of state numbers of a special series for vehicles has been submitted to the State Duma. The author of the document is a member of the LDPR faction, Alexander Sherin.
According to the explanatory note, a special series means characters consisting of the same letters or numbers, or including two zeros or one zero on the left with a repetition of the region code in the series.
“The right to obtain such state numbers can be exercised by any citizen participating in the auction, and not only by those persons who have certain connections in the structures of the State Traffic Inspectorate,” the document says. Thus, a citizen has a choice: to receive a registration mark, which will be assigned to him, or to participate in an auction for the sale of marks and offer his own price.
The author of the initiative adds that such a proposal has already been submitted to the lower house, but has not been implemented. At the same time, “illegal income and the shadow market for the sale of state numbers have a place to be.”
In Russia, on August 4, 2020, a new standard for numbers of cars and motorcycles came into force. It became allowed to reduce the size of the sign for motorcycles, and also introduced the type of license plates for vehicles with a non-standard attachment point. The fonts, structure and sizes of the main types of plates for vehicles have not changed.
