The Musician of Campllong opens today (21.30) the twentieth edition with the premiere of an adaptation of the musical Isabel “Five Hours”inspired by trade unionist Isabel Vilà (Calonge, 1843 – Sabadell, 1896), in concert format. Ten years after the start of that ambitious project to bring Toni Strubell’s text to the musical theater about the life of the woman who fought to restrict children’s working hours at a time when child labor was common, the Campllong festival debuts an in-house production focused on the music and the story of the assembly, but without the scenography or the projections.

The musician and composer Antoni Masauthor of the music for the musical together with his son Marc, explains that he was sorry that all the effort was in vain, because of the work done, but above all, “because of the character, because Isabel Vilà was a brutal woman”.

«The concert version allows the audience to concentrate on what we are explaining, not to get lost in the form and focus on what the narrator and the musical illustrations are explaining about a woman who fought a lot for others”, says Mas about Isabel “Cinc Hores”, also known for her participation in the Bisbal Fire.

For the concert version, the music had to be adapted and arranged as well the libretto of the musical, which has become a monologue narrated in the first person by the actress Isabel Rocatti.

The biographical passages of Vilà explained by the interpreter are illustrated with four lyrical voices, the soprano Indira Ferrer, the mezzo-soprano Mar Esteve, the tenor Josep Fadó and the baritone Lluís Sintes. They do it with the support of fourteen musicians from the Campllong Musician’s Orchestra, directed by Marcel Sabaté and created expressly for the show.

Mas, who had been thinking about bringing back the musical for years, points out that this production was possible thanks to the Musician’s Board, who believed in it, and Xavier Albertí from Embotits La Selva, who bet strongly on it.

“It’s a completely Catalan project, almost 100% from Girona, with a history linked to Les Gavarres, Calonge, Llagostera and performers from here… a show that fits in with the philosophy of the Musicant”, remarks Mas , who points out that the team’s wish is that the life of the adaptation does not end in Campllong and that a small tour can be made.

with Isabel “Five Hours” five days of music open in Campllong. Tomorrow will be the turn of Palau de la Música Catalana Chamber Choir and the next day it will stop in Campllong the 30-year tour of Quico el Célio, el Noi i el Mut de Ferreries. Sea Snow, with gifts of salt will perform there on September 1st and finally Musician Marc Parrot will close on the 2nd.
