The recent offensive of the Palestinian people against the permanent advance of the colonizing invasion of the State of Israel has once again placed the main conflict in the Middle East at the center of discussions in the world. The actions led by Hamas against Israel and supported by more than 12 other resistance organizations, in which through an offensive by land, sea and air, produced – and continue to produce – hard blows to Israel’s giant military apparatus.
This offensive is the result not only of the historical usurpation of Palestinian territory by the Zionist State of Israel, but of the permanent offensive that continues to remove territories from Palestine through illegal settlements, the Apartheid regime imposed especially on the Gaza Strip. Gaza, where the population is denied the minimum rights and where Israel permanently attacks the population indiscriminately.
The magnitude of this offensive has been responded to by the State of Israel with enormous attacks directly against the civilian population, massacres against entire families, destruction of residential buildings, hospitals and schools, even the possible use of white phosphorus is denounced, already exceeding the Israeli victims, there is talk of at least 700 dead, of which 90 would be boys and girls. Netanyahu’s offensive promises to be devastating “like never before” and that the counteroffensive on the Gaza Strip is “just the beginning.” They have announced that they will leave Gaza without energy, water or food, violating the minimum standards of international law, and the minimum sense of humanity; turning Gaza from the largest open-air prison in the world that it is today into a true concentration camp.
This response from Israel is supported by the vast majority of governments in the world, starting with the imperialist government of the United States and the European Union. With their unconditional support for Israel, they not only legitimize crimes against humanity again, but they also become a new blank check for the Israeli armed forces to attack and punish the Palestinian population.
However, the statements of Gustavo Petro, who has refused to join the chorus of support for Israel, have also been in the news. Both in his personal statements via This led the Israeli ambassador in Colombia to publicly demand his position from Petro, since the Colombian bourgeoisie as a whole joined in this claim and questioning of Petro.
We welcome the fact that Petro has refused to condemn the actions of Hamas, and has refused to support Israel in its counteroffensive, which already shows its criminal nature against the Palestinian population. He must stand firm more than ever on this issue.
However, his call for peace, when what there is is a historical crime legitimized for decades by imperialism and its institutions, when the Palestinian territory was usurped to artificially create the Zionist State of Israel, is insufficient.
As is the case with the population in Ukraine, the armed resistance against the invasion requires international solidarity, the Palestinian resistance requires the greatest international solidarity, while the most vehement rejection of the crimes of the Zionist State of Israel, those carried out, is necessary. , those that have been carried out and those that will be carried out.
Therefore, it is necessary for this government to break relations with the Zionist State of Israel and publicly express its solidarity with the Palestinian resistance, and call on other governments to do the same.
