An electric train faster than a plane developed by a French-Canadian startup

by time news

FluxJet is the high-speed electric train designed by startup TransPod for a “hyperloop” project that will connect the cities of Calgary and Edmonton in Canada. Vacuum-packed and suspended by magnets, it will be faster than an airplane.

A maximum speed of 1,200 kilometers per hour

According to startup TransPod, the FluxJet uses new technological advances in contactless power transmission and a new area of physics known as “flux monitoring”, allowing it to cruise at speeds of over 1,000 kilometers. per hour along an elevated guideway. Circulating in a vacuum guideway and suspended by magnets, it will be able to reach a maximum speed of 1,200 kilometers per hour, which is three times faster than a current high-speed train, and comparable at the speed of an airplane. A first infrastructure whose cost is estimated at 18 billion dollars will see the light of day in Canada, making it possible to go from the city of Calgary to Edmonton in 45 minutes, whereas this trip takes three hours by car. To carry out its project, TransPod has raised funds of 550 million dollars.

The FluxJet, a solution to the new constraints?

As passengers grow increasingly disillusioned with air travel, the FluxJet aims to meet new environmental demands and reduce reliance on fossil-fueled planes and highways, said Ryan Janzen, co-founder and CTO (Director of New Technologies) of TransPod.
