The match has been postponed until after 9:30 p.m. by hundreds of fans who tried to access the match with false tickets

The 2021-2022 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool it had to be delayed more than half an hour due to a problem with the entrance to the Stade de France.

The match between the English and Spanish was supposed to start at 9:00 p.m., but it was delayed -at first- to 9:15 p.m. However, it ended up setting the start time at 9:30 p.m. in order to be able to troubleshoot access to the stadium.

As reported by UEFA after the game, the turnstiles at the back of Liverpool were blocked by thousands of fans who they had bought fake tickets. This racked up thousands of fans trying to get in. And to allow access to as many fans as possible with authentic tickets, the match was delayed 35 minutes.

As the number of people outside the stadium continued to increase after delaying the match, the police dispersed them with tear gas and forced them out of the stadium. The brother and wife of Matic (pregnant), a Liverpool defender, were there and they had to take shelter in a restaurant.

And although the delay was mostly caused by Liverpool fans, they were not the only ones responsible for the delay. Some French citizens went to the Stade de France and tried to rob the fans who had traveled to Paris, and also overcame the fences of the stadium to gain free access to the Champions League final.

The biggest delay in a European Cup Final was the Tragedia de Heysel in 1985, which ended with 39 people killed and the game starting 85 minutes late. Tomorrow marks the 37th anniversary of that incident.
