Bangladesh Cyber ​​Security Summit 2024 dedicated to Grameenphone was held at La Meridien Hotel in the capital on Tuesday (March 5) under the initiative of Bangladesh Innovation Conclave.

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said in the speech of the chief guest at the event, the country’s cyber security should not be hired technology or help from abroad, we should develop our own strength. Just as no country wants to outsource its defense with hired military forces, Bangladesh will not use any hired technology in cyber security or protection. Dependence on foreign countries to ensure national cyber security in the country’s banking, telecom and power sectors is risky. Therefore, we are working on creating new tools for our own cyber security experts and technologies.

He said that no person, organization and state in the world can claim that they are 100% cyber safe. However, we have come a long way in increasing capacity, efficiency and awareness. In recent times there are major attacks to steal data and slowly data is becoming valuable as well as money. Now we need to pay more attention to data security. That is why we are moving towards the formulation of the Personal Data Protection Act.

In his speech, the Minister of State emphasized on four issues – raising awareness at the citizen level, technology development, strict enforcement of laws and international coordination in cyber security.

Junaid Ahmed Palak urged everyone to work together to keep the cyber world safe and counter cyber attacks.

International coordination is more necessary, the state minister said, stating that the cyber attack on Bangladesh Bank in 2016, but the service was not attacked by cyber criminals from one country. They steal money from Bangladesh and take it to another country. We have provided guidelines to every critical information infrastructure organization and are training them on what technical capabilities they need to avoid such major losses. Besides, cooperating for technological development. Also, we have agreements with India, America, Japan and Korea, so that if they get any kind of cyber security threat or risk information, they share it with us, we share it with them. We have accepted the membership of some international organizations. The most important thing in the world right now is ensuring cyber security. Because, the more economically we prosper, the more digital services we provide to the people of Smart Bangladesh, the more cashless economic activities become, the more our cyber risk will continue to increase.

He said, through this cyber summit, cyber security experts at the national and international level will understand the current risks, increase awareness about future actions and a collaboration will be made between them in the public-private sector and education sector. In the future, awareness raising or foreign technology will not only be brought to Bangladesh, but the business potential of startups with cyber security in the future will be created.

He also said that Bangladesh Cyber ​​Summit will be organized every year. From next year we will have local cyber security start-ups, innovators and technologies that have the opportunity to develop locally, the government wants to ensure cyber security and achieve self-reliance by collaborating with industry and academia.
