Bolsonaro must fear for re-election in Brazil – Brazil

by time news

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro could face the same fate as his US role model Donald Trump. According to all polls, the right-wing populist head of state will be voted out after just one electoral term. The first round of the election will take place on Sunday, with a possible run-off at the end of October. Instead, the hour of an old acquaintance should strike: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The former union leader from the left-wing Labor Party PT was already president from 2003 to 2011 and is the favorite in the race. He was not allowed to stand in the last election in 2018 because he was imprisoned on suspicion of corruption. All four lawsuits against him have since been dismissed due to procedural errors.
