BOLZANO. In Alto Adige, permanent hiring is increasing. It is reported byWorkers promotion institute based on labor market data, according to which, in 2023, there were 226,310 working active South Tyroleans, with a increase of 2.2% compared to those employed in 2022. “An undoubtedly positive aspect to underline is that permanent employment has increased more than seasonal employment and other types of fixed-term contracts”, observes Ipl president, Andreas Dorigoni. According to the Institute, this is also due to the ever-increasing shortage of qualified manpower which forces employers to offer permanent contracts in order to recruit qualified personnel.

I permanent employment contracts have increased significantly more than those on fixed-term contracts. In fact, if in 2022 there were 160,172 workers with permanent contracts, in 2023 the figure was 163,891, equal to an increase of approximately 3,700 units (plus 2.3%). The number of fixed-term contracts instead went from 61,364 to 62,419, thus growing by approximately 1,000 units (+1.7%). “For an employee, the advantages of a permanent job are clear – underlines the IPL – in addition to the guarantee of a future perspective, there is a stronger identification with the company, more willingness to follow continuous training , greater security in life planning and easier access to possible bank loans”.

“In 2018 – states the Ipl director, Stefan Perini – we raised an alarm bell regarding the issue of precarious work, which at the time affected 3 out of 10 workers. Currently, however, we can note that this trend, which attenuated with the pandemic, has stabilized at 27.6% in 2023 “. Furthermore, the IPL reports, part-time contracts are also increasing which, in 2023, reached 28.5%, while the South Tyrolean labor market increasingly relies on workers of foreign citizenship who, always last year, they reached 15.8% of the total.
