Nikhat Sareen is the second Indian woman to win more than one gold medal in world boxing. Mary Kom is the first Indian player to achieve this feat. Nikhat Zareen dominated the first round in the final bout, but the Vietnamese returned to the fray in the second round. Nikhat secured the victory with his performance in the third round.
India won third gold in women’s boxing through Nikhat Sareen. Nitu Gankhas in the 48 kg category and Sweety Bura in the 81 kg category won gold for India in the finals on Saturday. Twenty-two-year-old Nitu from Bhiwani, Haryana won the gold by defeating Mongolian player Lutsikan Altenseg 5-0.
In the 81 kg category, Sweety, a native of Haryana’s Hisar, won the gold by defeating China’s Wang Lina in a tough fight 4-3. This is the best performance in the career of Sweety who won silver in 2014 World Championship. Olympic medalist Lovelina Borgohen will also compete in Sunday’s final. Lovelina’s opponent is Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the 75 kg category.
