Brazil has set a new record for the number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic – 115,228 people per day, according to information on the website of the country’s Ministry of Health.
Over the past day, 2,392 people have died in the country. The total number of cases during the entire period of the pandemic exceeded 18.16 million people, the deaths – 507.1 thousand.

The previous record in the country was set on March 25. Then, over the previous day, 100,158 new cases of infection were recorded.
The upward trend resumed in Brazil on 22 June. On this day, 87,822 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the country. Given that the day before, this figure was 38,903 people. Mortality during this time has almost tripled – from 761 deaths on June 21 to 2,131 people on June 22.

At the end of May, a new COVID-19 strain was discovered in Brazil. It was identified in a sample from Itirapina in São Paulo state. The strain also spread to the city of Porto Ferreira.
