BOLZANO. Linguistic census: the first online edition wasn’t a real flop, but it wasn’t a success either. Now, we are trying to take action. In the city of Bolzano the door-to-door survey will start around April 10thbut first we try the civic centers map: five days of extraordinary opening, including Saturday mornings, including the demographic services desk of Firmian. It is hoped that this will be achieved 50% of the people of Bolzano. The municipal councilor anticipates it Christian Baptists.

For the first time, from the beginning of December to the end of February, it was possible to participate in the census online, but out of 484 thousand South Tyroleansi.e. Italian citizens residing in Alto Adige, only just over 148 thousand people took advantage of the digital possibility. At the provincial level, the 30,61%.

In Bolzano it went more or less in a similar way: the 30,13%, less than one in three. It was not a flop, because in any case it was the first survey of this type, which required a minimum of digital skills and above all Spid or Cie. And if the middle segment of the population, at least those with children, is now accustomed to (otherwise it would be impossible to enroll in nurseries, schools, canteens), the elderly are much less so, while young people are probably less informed: not everyone knows that this is an obligation (not to be confused with the declaration of linguistic belonging which is made in court).

«In Bolzano – said the councilor – with online in the end we are in line with the provincial result». Not bad, but now we need to speed up. There is time until June 30th for traditional paper surveys, door to door, which are much more expensive in terms of time and money (for each registered person the surveyor receives 4.50 euros gross).

Also for this reason, in Bolzano it has now been decided to give it another chance. «From Tuesday 2 April we’ll open one counter in all civic centerscon opening hours 8.30-13 and 14-17.30. Until Friday 5 April. It will also be open on Saturday April 6, from 8.30 to 13. There is no need to book, just a valid identity document.” It is important, he continues, «That the people of Bolzano participate. Only a minute is wasted. The anonymous survey will be paper-based, like the door-to-door survey. There will be a privacy corner where you can tick the The councilor continued: «Actually, we ask everyone to give us a hand, because in this way the house-to-house work will be significantly reduced. It will be something quick, a great opportunity, the Spid is not needed…”.

After this first week, the hope is to reach at least 50%. «The following week we will collect the lists. It will take a day or two, then we will leave house to house.” About a hundred detectors have already been found and trained, but difficulties are feared. Those who live alone are increasingly reluctant to open the door to strangers, and the families themselves are reluctant to send their daughter around to ring the intercom in apartment buildings. One way or another, the councilor concludes, «Participate. I say this especially to young people: it is used to determine the quotas for the assignment of houses, for contributions. It is important for young people to understand, it is for their future.”

Finally, the councilor recalls that he recently launched one desk dedicated specifically to young peopleTuesday from 4pm to 5.30pm, in the town hall. «I’m in the area, I try to go to youth centers, to events, but the desk helps: they can come in and bring me their ideas. It’s working, a lot of kids are coming.”
