Chennai Meteorological Center Director P. Senthamarai Kannan issued a press release in this regard: Atmospheric circulation prevails in the Gulf of Mannar. Due to this, light to moderate rain with thundershowers will occur at a few places in the south-western districts, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Pudukottai and Karaikal areas on the 12th. Few places in delta districts and one or two places in Madurai, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari districts and Karaikal. On the 13th, 14th and 15th there will be light showers at one or two places in the coastal districts of South Tamil Nadu. Most other districts and parts of Pondicherry and Karaikal are dry.
During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on the 11th, maximum rainfall of 8 cm was recorded at Kodiyakkara, 7 cm at Vedaranyam, 5 cm at Thirupaundi and 4 cm at Velankanni in Nagapattinam district. Thus stated in the press release.
