Mohali: A student was arrested for spreading pictures of girls’ toilets from the women’s hostel on social media. A first year MBA student of Chandigarh University was arrested by the Mohali police. After the footage went viral, there was a huge protest in Chandigarh University. The protest was based on the allegation that one of the girls living in the hostel had recorded the bathroom footage of her classmates and circulated it on social media. The police arrested the student after the protest.
The video was circulated in the name of the arrested girl. Pictures of girls protesting on campus also surfaced. There are reports that many girls tried to commit suicide after the footage came out. With this, students protested in different parts of the university. But Mohali Police Chief Vivek Soni responded that no one has attempted suicide and the news is baseless. It is a privately managed university.

The students threatened to commit suicide in the campus. It was after this that the news of suicide attempt spread widely. The university authorities stated that the student who collapsed during the protest was admitted to the hospital. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains appealed to the students to exercise restraint and not allow the culprits to escape. Punjab State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati also said that an investigation has been started in the matter.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s reaction to the incident is as follows…
“A female student in Chandigarh University has captured private footage of her fellow students in the hostel and circulated it. The matter is very serious and humiliating. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. Victims should exercise restraint and courage. We are all with you. Everyone should be patient.”
