/ An informed maritime source reported, today, Tuesday, that Iran has seized a marine tanker heading towards Iraqi ports.

The source told Agency, “This evening, the Iranian Navy detained a marine tanker coming from the UAE towards Iraqi ports in territorial waters,” pointing out that “the Iranian Navy is currently conducting an audit of the tanker’s papers.”

The source stated, “Preliminary investigations into the reasons for the detention indicate that the tanker is suspected of carrying materials to Israel,” explaining that “the Iraqi maritime authorities did not receive prior notification from the Emirati authorities that a sea tanker was heading toward Iraqi ports.”

The source pointed out, “Investigations are still ongoing into the matter to uncover its circumstances, as it is believed that the tanker attempted to enter Iraqi ports in some way without prior notice.”

In addition, the former Iraqi Minister of Transport, maritime expert, Amer Abdul Jabbar, said that information was received to him about an oil tanker flying the Tanzanian flag, heading to the Basra Oil Port, coming from the UAE, that it had been subjected to piracy in Iraq’s territorial waters.

He added in a tweet on the X website that Iraqi naval forces came to the site, found Iranian naval forces on board the tanker, raised the Iranian flag on it, and headed the tanker to the Iranian coast.
