Covid threatens the Olympics: record-breaking infections in Tokyo in the last six months

Two days after the start of the Olympics, Tokyo updates the record of daily Covid infections, with 1,832 cases, which represents the maximum since mid-January. The “quasi” state of emergency is currently in force in the capital and in the three surrounding prefectures, lasting until 22 August, beyond the official program of the Games.

Covid: South Korea, yesterday 1,784 cases, is a new record

New record of infections also in South Korea, a country that, moreover, does not participate in the Olympics precisely as a health precaution. Yesterday, Tuesday 20 July, 1,784 cases were recorded, reaching a new record of 182,265 infections and 2,060 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

United Kingdom: 96 deaths in 24 hours; never so many since March

In the last 24 hours, the United Kingdom has recorded 96 deaths from Covid: it is the highest number since last March 24. Also in the last 24 hours, the new cases detected were 46,558. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic is 128,823. Monday was “Freedom day”, which is the day almost all the latest anti Covid restrictions were lifted. For weeks, infections have continued to grow in the country due to the Delta variant.

Covid: record of new cases in Iran, another 27,444

Bad news also from Iran, where a record of new Covid cases was recorded: in the last 24 hours 27,444 were positive, bringing the total to 3,576,148. The Ministry of Health reported, while stricter measures have come into force in the capital Tehran to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.
