A bus carrying passengers to the town of Moria in the northern province of Limpopo, South Africa, for Easter celebrations, was crossing a bridge at Mamatlakala when the driver suddenly lost control and overturned into a nearby valley. 45 passengers died on the spot. Fortunately, only the 8-year-old girl was rescued alive with serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the bus was carrying passengers from Botswana to Moria in Limpopo for Easter celebrations. It appears they were on a pilgrimage to Moriah, the headquarters of Zion Christian Church, one of the largest churches in South Africa.

In the accident, the bus was completely burnt and the bodies of many people inside were burnt beyond recognition. Many bodies were trapped under the bus. Their recovery is underway. As soon as it hit the ground, the whole bus burst into flames. Meanwhile, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences for the accident.

The tragedy comes as South Africans prepare for a four-day weekend with public holidays on Friday and Monday.
