According to a police report, CPM activists had come to kill Deepu in protest against her role in Twenty20. The first accused Zainuddin stabbed Deepu in the neck. And then pushed down. Zainuddin trampled Deepu to the ground. Abdurrahman and Aziz were kicked out together. Bashir, the second accused, said obscene things. According to the FIR, the four had threatened to kill Deepu.
However, the CPM leadership explained that the crackdown was not planned. The leaders had said that Deepu had tried to forcibly turn off the lights in the houses, which resulted in clashes.
