He came back from Test cricket against Bangladesh. But the leg spin all-rounder is not coming back anytime soon. He was banned for two matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the code of conduct in the ODI series.

Hasaranga bid farewell to Test cricket last year.

Hasaranga breached Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct by misbehaving with the umpire during the match, the ICC said in a statement. In the 37th over of the match, Hasaranga grabbed the cap from the umpire and mocked him.

As punishment, Hasaranga was fined 50 percent of his match fee and added three demerit points. This spinner got a total of 8 demerit points within 24 months. Out of which he could not play the first two T20 matches against Bangladesh due to 5 demerit points.

A total of 8 demerit points of 8 hasaranga will be converted into four suspension points as per ICC Article 7.6. Hasaranga will be banned for two Tests and four ODIs and T20Is as per the four suspension points.

Banned in whichever version comes first after the penalty is announced. Therefore, even if he is in the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh, he cannot play.

Meanwhile, captain Kushal Mendis has been fined 50 percent of his match fee. Kushal abused the umpire while shaking hands at the end of the match, which violated Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Hasaranga-Kushal both pleaded guilty and accepted the punishment proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.
