Dr. Al-Rabiah reviews the efforts of the King Salman Relief Center to support the health of mothers and children

Yesterday, a high-level session was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) entitled: “Saving Lives… Responding to Reproductive Health in Humanitarian Situations,” with the participation of His Excellency the Advisor to the Royal Court and the General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah.

The session, which took place in New York City on the sidelines of the activities of the United Nations General Assembly at its 78th session, also saw the attendance of other prominent figures such as Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Dr. Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund.

During the session, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah highlighted the efforts of the King Salman Relief Center in supporting reproductive health programs, particularly in line with the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals Initiative. He emphasized that the Center has implemented numerous humanitarian projects in collaboration with United Nations agencies, international organizations, and local community organizations.

With a total cost exceeding $100 million, these projects aim to provide reproductive health services to pregnant women, girls, and children in various countries. The King Salman Relief Center supports reproductive health centers and primary health units by providing medical personnel, operational costs, medicines, and medical supplies. The centers are also equipped with the necessary medical equipment to provide integrated services to beneficiaries.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah further noted that the King Salman Relief Center has also focused on supporting the infrastructure of health facilities to ensure the safe provision of reproductive health services. This includes the construction and equipping of operating rooms, neonatal intensive care units, and emergency departments. The Center also aims to expand the scope of reproductive health services in remote and deserted areas through the deployment of mobile teams to countries facing humanitarian crises, natural disasters, epidemics, and other challenging circumstances. Additionally, efforts are being made to increase the capacity of healthcare workers and institutions through training programs, quality control frameworks, and information systems.

In closing, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah reiterated the commitment of the King Salman Relief Center to support reproductive health as a vital component of its interventions. The Center will continue to prioritize vulnerable countries and communities in cooperation with United Nations organizations.

These efforts underscore the King Salman Relief Center’s dedication to improving the health and well-being of mothers and children, furthering the global agenda for sustainable development, and ensuring reproductive health remains a priority in humanitarian situations.]
