As this is a legal determination, there is no further extension of the deadlines. According to a deliberation published by the National Traffic Council (Contran) on January 26, 2024, drivers in categories C, D and E who have not yet taken the toxicological test must do so in a staggered manner. The regularization periods will take into account the month in which the driver’s license is valid: • Drivers whose driver’s license is valid between January and June will have until March 31, 2024 to take the toxicological test; • Drivers whose driver’s license is valid between July and December will have until April 30, 2024 to take a toxicological test. For drivers whose licenses expire between July and December, fines begin to be applied on May 31st. The fine penalty for infractions provided for in Law 14,599/2023 is extremely serious (five times the original value of the fine), resulting in the amount of R$ 1,467.35, in addition to seven points on the driver’s license.
