Eelam: Is Sinhala Bhoomi becoming Shivabhoomi?

by time news

There is a natural underground well at Nilawari in Jaffna. The historic Varak well also provides water for the agricultural needs of the local people.

At the bottom of the well, which is an archeological site and a tourist attraction, the Sri Lankan army recently installed a small Buddha statue. Due to this, resistance arose not only among the people of the region but also among the people of the North East. The soldiers took away the idol the next day.

Illegal occupation: Mullaitivu, a district in Eelam, includes the area of Mullivaikal where the final battle took place. There are evidences of an ancient temple at Kurundurmalai there. A few years ago, during a survey conducted by the Jaffna University Archaeological Research Group, the remains of an octagonal Shivalinga were found.

Tamilnadu researchers also confirmed that there are Shivalingams in Tamilnadu temples in the image of that Shivalingam. But the Sinhalese Bhikkhus who came to the area, said that it was the site of a Buddhist temple and that they were going to build a huge Buddhist temple there.

The foundation stone of Anguparia Buddhist Vihara was laid during the reign of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Vidura Wickramanayaka, the Minister of the Government of the day, personally visited and laid the foundation stone. The court banned the establishment of a vicar there. The court also ruled that the construction of a Buddhist temple at the ancient Tamil site should be halted and the construction work should be abandoned.

Despite that, the Buddhist temple has been completed amid the protection of the Sri Lankan army and police. A religious site of archaeological importance to the Tamil people is occupied as a Sinhalese Buddhist monastery. As a result, there is a danger that the Tamils will lose not only that area but the whole of Eelam.

Buddha transformed into a soldier: Buddha is considered to be the embodiment of wisdom and the symbol of maturity. But the way of using Buddha in Sri Lanka is different. Buddha is here transformed into a Sinhalese soldier – an invader who usurps the temples and living lands of the Tamils.

The Ezha people fear the Buddha as someone who invades their lands and homes. This is the face, identity and honor given to the Buddha by the Sinhalese majority in Sri Lanka.

There are no LTTE in the field now. Ex-militants of LTTE who participated in the struggle are also dying one by one. In the ratio of one soldier for every five Eelish people, the army has been concentrated all over the Eelish land.

Army camps have been set up everywhere in towns, cities and streets. In order not to ask for a separate Eelam, Eelam is occupied not only by the government, but also by the military administrative structure. Even so, why is Buddha being used to usurp Eelam lands?

Targeted Temples: B.A. (AD) Thirumoola who lived in the fifth century called Eelam ‘Sivabhoomi’. Eecharam temples were found in abundance in Eelam. There are temples in all the four directions of Eelam.

These temples found in four directions and in the center of Eelam namely Thirukonecharam, Thirukedicharam, Naguleswaram, Munneswaram and Thondeecharam are strong evidences that Tamils were the original inhabitants of Eelam. The hymns sung by Sambandhar and Sundar, who lived in the seventh century, on the temples of Thirukonecharam and Thirukkeditcharam in Eelam are not only devotional songs but also historical sources of Eelam Tamils.

A separate Eelam struggle erupted when Tamils were denied equal rights in Eelam and their lands were confiscated. The Sri Lankan government has destroyed the armed struggle. Now the Sri Lankan government and the racists have a great hatred to destroy the Saiva temples that stand as symbols of the Eelam Tamils as the original inhabitants of this island and to distort their unique history.

The Department of Archeology of the Government of Sri Lanka is a government department that is working hard to destroy the Tamil and Saiva symbols in the land of Eelam and make Eelam a Sinhalese land. Today, the Sri Lankan government is carrying out a war of seizing lands and occupying temples, without weapons and without uniform, through the Department of Archaeology.

The people of Eelam are facing a three-pronged war. On one side the soldiers are occupying; On the other hand, the Sinhalese people came and settled in the land of Eelam and occupied it. On the other hand, the Department of Archeology is encroaching.

Unarmed Assault: Kathirgamam Murugan Temple in Southern Lanka is an ancient temple worshiped by Tamils. Today it is fully converted into a Sinhala temple. Similarly, there was an ancient temple called Tennavaram Thondicharam at Mathara in South Lanka. Mathurai is the native Tamil name of Matara.

The temple there was destroyed and the Shiva lingam is kept in the museum. This temple was called as ‘Devanthurai Temple’ and ‘Naga Reesa Nilak Temple’. Lord Shiva enshrined in this temple has the crescent moon on his head, so he has the nickname ‘Chandra Mauleeswarar’. Similarly, the Nandicharam at Rathmalana in Colombo was also destroyed.

In 2009, the Sri Lankan army, which occupied the North East through military operations, placed Buddha statues, temples and Buddhist stupas in the North East cities, streets and important places. Later, they brought Buddhist bhikkhus from South Lanka to take care of them.

These works are being carried out with the aim of not having their religious symbols in the cities and lands of Tamils and planting Buddhist and Sinhalese symbols there. There are reports that the Buddha statue has been placed in the controversial Kachchathiwa itself. This shows the issue entering new territory.

Even after the end of the war of small arms, the war of occupation of Ezha lands continues without sword and without blood. If this situation continues, the Eelah people will be completely wiped out from the Eelah soil. The demand of the Eelah people is that the war of aggression carried out to destroy the native land marks of the Eelah people and destroy the religious culture should be stopped immediately.
