Indian Railways Launches Yatri Seva Append (YSA) for Enhanced Passenger Experience on Vandebharat Express

Indian Railways is all set to elevate the passenger experience on Vandebharat trains with the launch of the Yatri Seva Append (YSA) as a pilot project on six pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains on the Southern Railway.

The pilot project aims to improve passenger comfort and provide additional value-added services such as better amenities, variety in food and beverages, assistance services, and on-board infotainment.

Under the YSA, railway passengers will receive assistance services such as cab arrival/departure, wheelchair and buggy drive assistance at stations of origin and destination. The on-board infotainment system will provide uninterrupted transmission of quality content, while complying with laws related to data protection, broadcasting, and intellectual property rights.

The initiative also emphasizes onboard cleanliness, with a contractor hired to implement YSA and appoint one person for housekeeping in each coach. Those hired for housekeeping must receive training in hospitality and housekeeping from recognized institutions.

A major highlight of the YSA is its exclusive food menu, with prepaid on-board delivery and a la carte services available at reasonable rates. Food will be prepared from ISO certified base kitchens equipped with CCTV and food packs with QR codes. Passengers will also have the option to order prepaid meals at the time of ticket booking or through the Yatri Seva app.

To ensure high-quality service, the YSA manager must be a graduate with three years of work experience in the hospitality industry. At least one employee in charge of food and beverage services must have a degree or diploma in hospitality, hotel management, or catering.

Additionally, there will be on-board sales of travel essentials, with the contractor free to sell any other product except those prohibited by law. However, there will be no sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.

Vande Bharat trains are currently running on several routes on the Southern Railway, including Chennai-Mysore, Chennai-Tirunelveli, Chennai-Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram-Kasarkot, and Chennai-Vijayawada, with the sixth route yet to be announced. With the launch of the YSA pilot project, Indian Railways is taking a significant step towards enhancing the overall passengerea experience on the Vandebharat Express.
