Munich – No electricity, no internet, no hot water! The Johannesdotter family from Feldmoching experienced pure chaos for two days.

Last week, Tuesday night, it suddenly became pitch black in the house during the storm. Dozens of homes were affected. “The lights went out around midnight. At first we didn’t think much about it, we went to bed as normal,” says mother Wanjun Fu (38). Then the next morning, the rude awakening. “My cell phone wasn’t charged, the electricity still didn’t work,” said the mother. It ended up taking 42 hours to get the family back on the grid.

“It would have been bad in winter,” says the mother. It was such a sad morning for son Simon (3). “I promised him waffles. But the iron didn’t work.” The last warm water was offered to Papa Frederik Johannesdotter.

“My husband is a lawyer, he had to wash his hair before he had important client appointments.” And even in the afternoon the problem was still not solved. “For Simon, that meant: no television.” The family went to bed in the dark again.

Starbucks and showers in the pool

Fu organized to spend the next day at Starbucks with his son and cell phone. “It wasn’t dramatic for us now, but you have to say: It’s unacceptable that you sit in the dark for two days after a storm in the 21st century.” In times of need, the family became inventive. “We went to the swimming pool to take a shower.” At around 6 p.m. on Thursday evening, the house was finally connected to the power grid again. “We finally have our lives back,” Fu says happily.

When asked by BILD, Stadtwerke München wrote on Friday about the long delays: “The employees at SWM are working flat out to rectify the disruptions since the storm on Wednesday night. In the meantime, most of the customers have been supplied again in the past few hours.”

Due to the area-wide extent of the disruption and the number of disruptions, the employees were on duty around the clock and the supply was gradually being ensured again. On Friday evening, all households were connected to the power grid again. “SWM regrets that in some cases there have been longer delays.”

Fu: “Hopefully that never happens again. Especially not when it’s cold. So it was an adventurous change.”
