Coach Thomas Tuchel remains at the center of the current crisis, even after the long-announced separation at the end of the season. “Bild” has now reported what the mood in the team is currently like – and how the players should view Tuchel. The basic problem is said to be that the relationship between coach and players is “not intact”. “The players won’t go through fire for him,” it continues.
Tuchel’s decisions are also increasingly being viewed critically, including the positioning of attacker Mathys Tel on the right side for the Freiburg game. Due to the offensively oriented Tel, Joshua Kimmich was largely on his own as a right-back. The team wonders “why Tuchel does this sometimes.”
Tuchel’s substitutions should also be questioned. The 50-year-old brought on Dayot Upamecano for the strong Jamal Musiala against Freiburg in the 83rd minute – Upamecano then only watched when Freiburg scored to make it 2-2. Tuchel unsettled the defense with his change. It is unclear whether this growing gap between coach and team can even be bridged by the end of the season.
