Mirëdita FC Drita: Top team from Shaqiri’s homeland comes to Brügglifeld for a friendly match

For the first time in around 15 years, an international friendly match will be played in front of an audience at Brügglifeld. It promises to be an Albanian party.

On Saturday, “the intercultural get-together in Brügglifeld will also be accompanied by a suitable supporting program and culinary specialties in honor of our guests,” says FC Aarau.

FC Aarau will play a friendly match against Kosovo’s top club FC Drita on Saturday at 6 p.m. This is based in the city of Gjilan (where Xherdan Shaqiri also comes from) and is one of the most successful clubs from Kosovo in the recent past. “The Brügglifeld will be the venue for an international friendly match with an audience for the first time in around 15 years,” said the FCA. “At that time, the reigning UEFA Cup winners FK Shakhtar Donetsk were guests in Aarau, as were VfL Wolfsburg (2008) and FK Rubin Kazan (2006).”

The FCA also writes on its website: “Due to the large community of Kosovo Albanians in Switzerland, high demand for tickets is to be expected.” The intercultural get-together in Brügglifeld will also be accompanied by a suitable supporting program and culinary specialties “in honor of our guests,” it goes on to say.

Normally, friendly games are not problematic in terms of security. However, the Serbia-Kosovo conflict has worsened again in recent months – and in Switzerland there are not only many Kosovars, but also many Serbs. Nevertheless: The cantonal police do not classify the encounter on Saturday evening as a risky game, as they said when asked.
