Jaffna University Students’ Union has declared February 4th as Karinal and the Tamil People’s Alliance has expressed its full support for the protest and rally to be held in Kilinochchi on that day.

In this regard, the party’s General Secretary and Member of Parliament K. V. Wigneswaran has informed the media in a press release.

In that press release, February 4, 1948 was the day when all the power was given to the majority Sinhalese under the name of unitary government, leaving the majority Sinhalese to impose chauvinistic policies like religion, language, and race on the minority race through population power.

Majority are curmudgeons

After the power was thus handed over to the Sinhalese majority, its ugly face began to show.

The Sinhalese Buddhist chauvinist governments that came to power alternately after Sri Lanka was freed from British colonialism thought and acted on how to suppress the Tamil people, commit genocide and expropriate their traditional lands.

The Sinhalese soldiers supported it. As an extension of that, the structural genocide against the Tamils continues in various forms.

Sinhalese settlements and Buddhistizations are taking place in a very subtle manner, with the aim of eradicating their presence in the Tamil homelands.

Batticaloa pasture land

At the same time, with the aim of making the Tamils economically weak, many methods of suppression such as excessive seizure of Batticaloa grazing lands and exploitation of our marine resources are continuing.

In this case, Jaffna has put forward reasonable demands to find a solution to this structural genocide that has been unleashed on the Tamil people. We extend our full support to this struggle of the university community and invite all parties to participate in this rally with love and right. said.
