Brazil is officially mourning the death of former player and coach Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo. He died on Friday night (5) from multiple organ failure at the age of 92. The decree of official three-day mourning is in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of Brazil.

Zagallo had been hospitalized at the Barra D’Or Hospital since the end of last year. “In memory of the eternal Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo, 3 days of official mourning have been declared in the country,” Lula posted on social media.

Earlier, the President of the Republic had already commented on the death of Velho Lobo. Lula recalled that, in addition to being one of the greatest football players and coaches of all time, Zagallo was “a great winner and symbol of love for the Brazilian team and Brazil”.

Legacy – Considered one of football’s greatest legends, Zagallo started playing the sport at 18 years old. He played as a left winger and became a three-time Rio de Janeiro champion with Flamengo, from 1953 to 1955.

To this day, he is the only person in football to win the World Cup four times: twice as a player (in Sweden in 1958 and in Chile in 1962), and the other as a coach. He was the commander of one of the teams that most enchanted the world in 1970 in Mexico. In the United States, in 1994, he was present as technical coordinator.
